Tehran holds int'l forestry workshop

More than 20 countries have participated in the first International Workshop on Forest Financing in Low Forest Cover Countries held in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

The event hosts high-ranking delegations and experts from 23 countries including Iceland, Finland, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Turkey, Libya, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen and a number of African countries, Press TV reported.

The workshop aims to share experiences about the destruction of forests and suggest feasible strategies and actions.

The event also aims to establish the learned strategies to be incorporated into national forest protection programs, including follow-on support through the United Nations, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

After holding three more workshops, the participating countries will apply the plans and use the strategies to develop the forest cover and restore landscapes.
